After a time spent in the corporate world, I found myself looking for a career that had more meaning. Through a personal experience with the healing power of massage therapy, I decided to pursue a career in this emerging wellness field. I graduated from the Florida School of Massage in 1989 with an advanced degree in Sports Massage. After two seasons working locally with professional cyclists, I took a trip to Colorado to spend the summer working the Professional Mountain Bike circuit. That summer changed my life. I discovered the place I was meant to be, and an exciting career began when I was offered a job with a professional team for the following season. I moved back to Colorado the next year and started a 4-year journey that would take me all over the world.
I spent 4 years as a team manager on the Professional International Mountain Bike Circuit from 1990-1994, working with the best athletes in the sport. After 4 years of constant traveling, I was ready to settle down with a private practice in Durango. Working with cyclists remains a singular passion of mine.
My training and experiences have led me to an ever-deepening understanding of the causes and effective treatment of neuromuscular dysfunction. 15 years ago, I received advanced training in stone massage with Mary Nelson, the creator of hot stone massage. Hot stone massage was originally designed as a therapeutic modality, rather than a spa treatment. Training with Mary gave me the knowledge to develop my own specialty. The Elevation Signature Stone massage incorporates my training and experience in Sports Massage, Deep Tissue, and Injury/Medical Massage. After a consultation, I will customize your massage session to meet your individual needs. I use 50-60 stones in every treatment, sometimes mixing hot and cold stones. The stones allow you to relax deeply and sustain deeper pressure with little discomfort. The therapeutic stones enhance and sustain the benefits of your massage long past your session. I finish each session with a full-body stretch.
